Nepal Adventure Guide: Trekking, Paragliding, Bungee, Rafting and More

October 29, 2026

Nepal is known for the Himalayas, but the mountains are only part of the story. The same country has deep river gorges, jungle national parks, and one of the world’s most popular paragliding spots. You can walk to Everest Base Camp one month and jump off a 160 m bridge the next.

This guide covers the main adventure activities in Nepal. For each one, you’ll learn where it happens, how long it takes, what it costs, and who it suits. You’ll also find ideas for combining activities and a safety checklist.

1. Trekking: The Classic Nepal Adventure

Trekking is Nepal’s signature adventure, and it suits almost every level. A short trek like Ghorepani Poon Hill takes 4 days. A big route like the Annapurna Circuit takes 21.

Where to start:

Not sure which to pick? Read our guide to the best treks in Nepal, or our list of hidden treks in Nepal. Before you go, read about permits and altitude sickness.

2. Paragliding in Pokhara

Where: Pokhara, launching from Sarangkot at about 1,592 m Time in the air: About 25 to 30 minutes (half a day in total) Experience needed: None. You fly in tandem with a certified pilot. Best season: October–November and February–May, with morning flights giving the clearest views Typical price: About $75–$120

You launch above Phewa Lake with the Annapurna range opposite you. A tandem flight is the easiest way to feel like you’re flying, because your pilot handles everything.

Good to know: Weather decides everything. Strong wind, cloud, or rain can cancel flights, so keep a spare day. See Snowbank’s Paragliding in Nepal page.

3. Bungee Jumping

Nepal has some of the world’s highest commercial bungee jumps.

Site Height Location Notes
The Last Resort, Bhote Koshi About 160 m About 3 hours from Kathmandu The most famous jump, from a suspension bridge over a gorge
The Cliff, Kushma About 228 m (reported) West of Pokhara A taller jump for experienced thrill-seekers
Hemja About 70 m About 20 minutes from Pokhara A gentler first jump

Heights vary by source, so confirm the site and height when you book.

Experience needed: None. Sites provide a safety briefing, harness check, and a cord matched to your weight. Many also ask for a medical declaration.

Typical price: About $80–$150, depending on the site.

Good to know: The Bhote Koshi site also offers a canyon swing and rafting, so it’s easy to combine them. See Snowbank’s Bungee Jumping in Nepal page, or the Kathmandu–Kusma (The Cliff) Adventure Getaway.

4. White-Water Rafting

Nepal has fast, scenic rivers for every level, from gentle floats to serious rapids.

River Difficulty Length Notes
Trishuli About Grade III Half to 2 days The most popular and easiest to reach, on the Kathmandu–Pokhara road
Bhote Koshi Grade IV–V 1 to 2 days Short, steep, and intense. Better for experienced paddlers.
Seti Grade II–III 1 to 2 days Gentle and scenic, near Pokhara
Sun Koshi Grade III–IV Several days A multi-day expedition-style trip
Karnali Higher grade 5+ days A remote multi-day river trip

Best season: September–November and March–June. Avoid the heavy monsoon, when rivers run high.

Typical price: About $35–$80 for a day on the Trishuli, and more for Bhote Koshi or overnight trips.

See Snowbank’s Rafting in Nepal page.

5. Canyoning

Canyoning means abseiling, sliding, and jumping down waterfalls and canyon walls. It’s one of Nepal’s less well-known adventures, and one of the most fun.

Where: Near Kathmandu and Pokhara Time: Half to a full day Experience needed: None, with a trained guide Best season: March–May and September–November

It pairs well with rafting on the same trip. See Snowbank’s Canyoning in Nepal page.

6. Peak Climbing

If trekking isn’t enough, Nepal offers “trekking peaks,” which are high summits with a non-technical but demanding climb. Snowbank offers three in the Everest region:

Experience needed: Good fitness and some mountain experience. You’ll use ropes, crampons, and an ice axe, with guides. Best season: Spring and autumn.

At these heights, altitude is a serious factor. Read our altitude sickness guide first.

7. Jungle Safari in Chitwan

Not all of Nepal’s adventure is high up. Chitwan National Park in the southern lowlands is a UNESCO World Heritage site, known for one-horned rhinos and a chance to spot Bengal tigers. Safaris are typically by jeep, on foot with a guide, or by canoe.

Time: 2 to 6 days Best for: Wildlife lovers and families

See Snowbank’s Chitwan Jungle Safari Tour or the Kathmandu Pokhara Chitwan Tour.

8. Motorbikes and Helicopters

  • Upper Mustang by motorcycle. Ride through a dry, high-altitude desert landscape in the rain shadow of the Himalayas. Snowbank offers a 4-day ride and a 6-day ride.
  • Everest helicopter tour. See the Khumbu region from the air without trekking. Snowbank’s Everest Helicopter Tour is a good fit if you’re short on time.

How to Combine Adventures

A 7-day thrill trip. Start with rafting and bungee at Bhote Koshi, continue to Pokhara for paragliding and canyoning, then finish with a short trek like Poon Hill.

A 10-day mix. Add Chitwan National Park for a safari, then end in Kathmandu.

Trek plus adventure. Finish a trek like Annapurna Base Camp with a paragliding flight in Pokhara. It’s a great reward for tired legs, as long as you leave a spare day for weather.

Safety Checklist

Adventure sports carry real risk. Before you book:

  • Choose a licensed, experienced operator that maintains its gear and briefs you properly.
  • Ask about safety checks, such as harness checks, certified pilots, helmets, and life jackets.
  • Check your insurance. Some travel policies exclude bungee, paragliding, rafting, or climbing. Make sure your policy covers each activity.
  • Be honest about your health, weight, and fitness. Operators often have weight limits and medical forms.
  • Don’t take part if you’re unwell or have been drinking.
  • Keep a spare day for weather, especially for paragliding and rafting.
